Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing."

~Abraham Lincoln, 19th-century U.S. president

Amy Davis has dedicated her life to the education and spiritual development of young women and men. She was recognized as a leader in the areas of academics, spirituality, languages, and sports in her undergraduate studies at Grove City College. There, among other honors, she was awarded membership in Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honorary. After achieving her degree, Amy moved to Asuncion, Paraguay, where she taught kindergarten and second grade, and had her first opportunity to speak publicly in Spanish. Her passion for international students began with these young children, and continued as she taught ESL in the United States.

Thinking she had left teaching behind when she began her Master of Divinity studies at Alliance Theological Seminary, her first semester found her tutoring, and halfway through her degree, she taught her first college class. This developed into a fulltime position as Instructor of Biblical and Theological Studies at Nyack College. A pioneer in her field, Amy is the first woman to be hired as a fulltime instructor of Bible and Theology since the institution’s founding in 1882. In the classroom, she is able to combine and exercise all those characteristics that are uniquely her – music, drama, writing, and speaking – she is superbly fit for this position. She has been named in both “Who's Who Among Students in American College and Universities,” and “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.”

Outside of the classroom, she consistently mentors students, acts as a spiritual director, and facilitates various college mission trips. These trips have taken her to Costa Rica and Ecuador, and in May of 2007, she will travel to Indonesia to do both physical and spiritual relief work.

Currently, Amy is working on a PhD in Liturgical Studies at Drew University; she will complete her course work in 2007, and her goal is to complete her degree in 2009. Once her current work on rites of passage for women is completed, she hopes to publish it, and thus empower women through teaching and ritual. She presently resides in Nyack, New York.
